I need a lathe to turn fine screws ...down to stock of 0.3 mm dia
stainless....up to implant sizes of 8 mm dia by 16 mm long. What is
best? Should I go cnc or is the learning curve too steep for a dabbler
making prototypes? Also how can I make a hex hole of 2mm deep and 1.5
across in Stainless steel rod 2.2mm dia? Can any one suggest a laser
at low cost that can cut clothing fabric...and a way to robotically
control it on a production line. Finally can any one suggest a source
for a wire bending machine that can form something like a 100mm 's'
shaped hook from coathanger wire? Thankyou!

For your bender a duomite bender from travers tool for (www.travers.com) or
McMaster Carr (www.mcmaster.com)
(or the chinese cheap equivlent from Micro Mark www.micromark.com)

for your laser
take a look a
VersaLaser( www.versalaser.com )

You could ask on rec.crafts.metalworking and alt.machines.cnc
about your hex hole.
